Social anxiety self-check for adults
An online social anxiety test cannot diagnose social anxiety disorder. This private educational self-check helps adults reflect on fear of judgment, anticipatory worry, body reactions, avoidance, and daily impact. Answers stay in the browser. Results organize experiences for a clinician and cannot determine whether anxiety, autism, trauma, culture, or another factor best explains them.

Important limitation
Social difficulty can reflect ordinary shyness, autism, trauma, depression, panic, speech or hearing differences, discrimination, cultural context, or realistic threats. A frequency profile cannot determine the cause or whether a disorder is present.
This is not the SPIN. LytePsych does not reproduce its items, scoring, cutoffs, fear-avoidance-physiology subscales, or claim equivalent measurement.

What can this social anxiety self-check for adults tell you?
This tool helps adults describe what happens before, during, and after social or performance situations. It focuses on fear of judgment and the ways anxiety changes behavior and participation.
A frequency profile can help organize examples for a conversation. It does not establish the cause, severity, duration, or clinical meaning of an experience.
Related and overlapping concerns
Similar experiences can occur for different reasons, and more than one concern can be present:
- Ordinary shyness without significant impairment
- Autism, communication differences, and hearing or speech conditions
- Trauma, depression, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety
- Cultural context, discrimination, and realistic social threats
- Medication, substance, or medical factors affecting physical symptoms

How to follow up in Texas
Texas residents can ask for an evaluation that separates fear of judgment from communication, developmental, trauma, mood, panic, cultural, and safety factors. Ask whether the therapist offers evidence-based treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy with graduated exposure when appropriate.

Can this social anxiety test diagnose social anxiety disorder?
No. It is an original educational self-check. Diagnosis considers duration, avoidance, impairment, context, and whether another developmental, communication, trauma, mood, medical, or cultural factor better explains the experience.
Is this the SPIN?
No. It does not reproduce, adapt, score, or claim equivalence to the Social Phobia Inventory. A licensed SPIN implementation would require separate written permission and exact instrument fidelity.
Is social anxiety the same as shyness?
No. Shyness can be a normal temperament. A disorder involves persistent fear of scrutiny or embarrassment that causes significant distress, avoidance, or interference.
Can autism look like social anxiety?
They can overlap, and a person may have both. Assessment considers developmental history, social understanding, sensory needs, fear of judgment, masking, avoidance, and whether difficulty remains when anxiety is low.
What do the domain results mean?
They show which social fear and avoidance areas you reported more or less often. They do not provide a diagnosis, severity category, probability, or cutoff.
How is social anxiety commonly treated?
Cognitive behavioral therapy with graduated exposure is commonly used, and medication may help some people. Treatment should be individualized to symptoms, preferences, context, and co-occurring conditions.
Are my social anxiety answers private?
Yes. Responses and domain calculations stay in the current browser session and are not submitted to LytePsych.
Methodology and authoritative sources
LytePsych wrote these questions as a clean-room educational reflection framework across five experience areas. The tool intentionally has no diagnostic total, validated cutoff, or claim of equivalence to Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN). The source list and safety framing should be reviewed whenever clinical guidance or service information changes.
