Psychiatry & therapy for Texas A&M students
A&M is the largest campus in Texas and one of the largest anywhere, and Aggie culture prizes grit in a way that can make asking for help feel like breaking formation. Every fall we see the same wave: students whose ADHD prescriptions expired over the summer, freshmen hitting their first real depressive episode 300 miles from home, and parents in Houston or Dallas trying to arrange care by phone.
When campus counseling runs out of sessions
University Health Services provides counseling and limited psychiatric care to a student body the size of a mid-sized city. When campus capacity runs short or you need care that continues past graduation, we pick up the thread: full evaluations, medication management, and therapy by video, usually within the week.
Campus resource: Texas A&M University Health Services, Mental Health Care. If you are in crisis right now, call or text 988 any time.
Insurance, for students and the parents reading this
Aggie students are mostly on parents' plans from across Texas, and the A&M System student plan (AcademicBlue) runs through BlueCross of Texas. We are in-network with BlueCross, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Aetna, and we verify your exact plan before the first visit.
How visits actually work at Texas A&M
Appointments work around class blocks and Corps obligations. Parents can join the first video call with the student's consent, which for a lot of families is the whole reason care finally starts. Prescriptions go to the Northgate-area pharmacies or wherever home is for the summer.
Wondering about ADHD medication rules for students? Read exactly how we handle stimulants and evaluations. Not sure what you are dealing with yet? Take the free 2-minute depression screen or anxiety screen, the same instruments we score at every visit. By video, wherever you are between classes
Most new patients are seen within 1 to 2 business days. Most insured students pay a $0 to $30 copay. Care continues through breaks and past graduation.
