Book the initial phone consultation
Del Mar’s appointment page describes a twenty-minute telephone consultation covering eligibility, confidentiality and service options. It links the consultation scheduler and says a counselor will call at the selected time.
Use the scheduler linked from the Counseling Center page, enter the information it requests and verify the phone number you supply. Put the call on your calendar with time to answer privately. Keep a few questions nearby about the difficulty you want help addressing and any practical limits on your schedule. You do not need to decide which type of counseling is appropriate before that conversation.
Contact the office when the listed times or phone format do not fit
The published instructions say to call the office if none of the consultation times work or if you prefer an in-person consultation.
Explain the specific constraint: class times, work hours, difficulty taking a private call or a need to clarify the appointment format. Ask the office what it can arrange and wait for confirmation before traveling. A request for a different format is a scheduling conversation, so avoid assuming that a walk-in visit will be a full counseling appointment.
Write down what happens after the consultation
Del Mar says that a student referred for individual counseling may be assigned to a counselor other than the one who conducted the initial consultation.
Before the call ends, ask whether the next step is a campus appointment or a community referral. If another counselor will contact you, note the expected contact method and whom to ask if no instruction arrives. If you are given an outside service, ask whether you need to book directly and what information to provide. Treat the next appointment as confirmed only when the responsible office has supplied the details.
Check the actual campus and keep academic requests with advising
The Counseling Center lists Heritage, Windward and Oso Creek locations. Its current main page also distinguishes personal counseling from academic advising.
Check the building and campus on your confirmation rather than assuming the next visit is at the main office. If your concern includes a course change or withdrawal, keep a separate advising question list so you can obtain the academic process and relevant dates from the correct office. Counseling can be part of your support while the academic decision follows its own procedure.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.

Will the counselor who calls me also provide my later Del Mar counseling?
Possibly, but Del Mar says the assigned individual counselor may be different. Ask for the next clinician’s name and appointment instructions at the end of the consultation.
What if I prefer an in-person first consultation?
Del Mar’s appointment instructions direct students to call the Counseling Center to request that arrangement. Confirm the date and campus with the office.
