State your goal when contacting the Counseling Center
Call 903-886-5145 to start with the East Texas A&M Counseling Center. Say whether you want a first counseling appointment, help returning to care, or a discussion about psychiatric evaluation. The center lists in-person and online appointments, groups, and consultation or referral support.
If you have an existing therapist or prescriber, explain that you are arranging continuity rather than starting without prior care. Ask what information the campus team needs before deciding the next step.
Psychiatric evaluation begins with a counselor referral
The university lists psychiatric evaluation as a service accessed by counselor referral. Ask the Counseling Center how to arrange that discussion and what happens after a referral is made.
If your goal is ongoing medication management, ask who would provide follow-up and whether campus or community care is the appropriate route. A referral for evaluation does not establish that a particular medicine will be prescribed or that continuing appointments have been arranged.
Use the university’s TELUS setup instructions
East Texas A&M’s TELUS program offers real-time counseling support by phone or chat and short-term counseling by appointment. The university also lists counselor matching by language or lived experience upon request.
When setting up the TELUS Health Student Support app, follow the university page and select East Texas A&M University Student in the profile. Tell the program if you want a matching preference. Use the campus counselor-referral process separately when your task is psychiatric evaluation.
Request counseling records before a transfer
To request Counseling Center records, call 903-886-5145. The university says an administrator will discuss the request and requires a completed written release-of-information authorization plus valid identification.
Ask the receiving clinician which records to request and how they should be sent. If you also received medical care at Student Health Services, identify that separately: it is based in Henderson Hall and uses a different contact number, 903-886-5853.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Can I self-book a campus psychiatric evaluation directly?
The university lists psychiatric evaluation as counselor-referred. Contact the Counseling Center to ask how to begin that process.
Can I ask TELUS for a counselor who speaks my preferred language?
East Texas A&M lists language and lived-experience counselor matching upon request. Ask the program about the options available for your request.
Which office holds my campus counseling records?
Start with the Counseling Center, which publishes its own release and identification requirements. Student Health medical records are a separate question for the medical office.
