Call Gideon with a clear service request
Gideon lists individual counseling, groups and workshops for HCU students. Its service page invites students to call 281-649-3431 for help choosing a service or obtaining a referral. Students from different faith and spiritual backgrounds are welcome.
Describe what you need in everyday language. You might want individual therapy, support alongside existing treatment or help locating a prescriber. Ask which option fits that request and what happens next. You do not need to choose a diagnosis before making an administrative inquiry.
Check where the appointment can take place
Gideon lists in-person and online appointments for students in Texas, subject to availability. It directs online students outside Texas to contact the center for local referral information.
Tell the office where you will physically be for sessions, including school breaks. Ask whether your preferred format is offered for the appointment you need. The contact page lists Gideon at HCU’s Bradshaw Fitness Center, 7731 Southwest Freeway, Suite 2308. Confirm the entrance and arrival instructions before traveling; do not assume the appointment is at the university’s general mailing address.

Use Gideon’s own fee information
At this guide’s October 14, 2026 source check, Gideon listed a $10 HCU student individual-session fee, free sessions for U.S. veterans, and free groups and workshops. It says it does not accept health insurance and provides information about financial assistance on request.
Confirm the current fee and any assistance before your appointment. These are Gideon’s published terms; they do not describe Lyte or another outside practice. If you receive a referral, ask the receiving office separately about insurance, self-pay prices and other charges. Keep campus costs and outside costs on separate lines when comparing your options.

Ask explicitly about a medication-evaluation referral
Gideon’s student service page describes counseling and referral support. That description should not be treated as confirmation of an on-site prescriber. If medication evaluation is your goal, ask the office which service to contact and how an outside referral would work.
When speaking with a receiving clinic, state whether this would be a first evaluation or a transfer from an existing prescriber. Ask which records it needs, how to schedule follow-up and whom to contact with questions before the first visit. A therapy appointment, referral list or inquiry form does not establish a prescription plan.
Discuss approach and the plan for continuing care
Gideon publishes a Christian counseling philosophy. Read it before the appointment if the treatment approach matters to your decision, and ask how your preferences would be discussed in sessions.
You can also ask who will provide the service, what supervision applies if you see an intern and how the team reviews progress. Explain whether you already work with a therapist or prescriber. Before adding or changing providers, ask what communication would be useful and how you would authorize it. If you need a different approach or an outside service, request help identifying the next step.

Keep emergency support separate from scheduling
HCU lists 988 for crisis support and HCU Campus Police at 281-649-3911 for an on-campus emergency. For an off-campus emergency, call 911. Use urgent support instead of waiting for a response to the routine contact form.
Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Can I use Gideon online while outside Texas?
Gideon directs online students outside Texas to contact the center about local referrals. Check your actual location with the office before scheduling.
Will my insurance card pay for a Gideon appointment?
Gideon says it does not accept health insurance. Ask about its current student fees and assistance, and check outside-provider costs separately.

Does a counseling request also arrange medication management?
Clarify the requested service with the office. Ask whether a separate evaluation or outside referral is needed; do not assume the counseling request includes a prescriber.
