Use the counseling directory for your college
HCC’s counseling page links a Contact Counseling directory with office locations and college department contacts. This is more useful for a specific request than a general campus information number or an old staff listing.
Find the college or location you attend and ask which counselor or intake route is appropriate. If your courses are spread across locations, state that in the request and ask where the appointment will occur. Verify the location directly before traveling. A counselor biography explains professional background; it does not establish that the person is currently accepting a particular kind of appointment.
Ask what the initial appointment will cover
HCC describes free, time-limited counseling for currently enrolled students, provided by licensed counselors. Its main page provides HCC Cares as a department contact. Ask the office to explain the initial appointment and any required forms.
It can help to prepare two short notes: what you want help accessing now, and what logistical barrier could prevent attendance. For example, you might be able to attend only between classes or need to clarify whether a referral is appropriate. Ask how ongoing visits are arranged and when to discuss support beyond the college’s short-term service. Keep the individual scheduling decision with the counseling team.

Name counseling and other student support needs separately
HCC’s department description includes mental health counseling as well as basic-needs support, academic skills assistance and accommodation-related functions. A student can have more than one support question, but that does not mean one request completes every process.
When contacting HCC, explain which tasks you need help with. Ask who owns each next step and whether another office needs a separate form. For example, obtaining an appointment and asking about an academic access issue may involve different documentation. Write down the responsible office and its response so a referral between departments does not become an unfinished loop.

Prepare for an outside intake when needed
The time-limited campus service is a reason to discuss continuity if you expect to need support after the term or after leaving HCC. Ask your counselor about resources and what records would be useful for a receiving clinician.
Contact an outside office directly to confirm its intake, appointment format and costs. If the request involves an existing medication prescriber, explain that to the receiving office and ask about its assessment and records requirements; a campus counseling visit does not itself transfer prescribing responsibility. Keep the current and proposed appointment dates visible, and ask the involved offices to clarify who handles each administrative question while the transfer is being arranged.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
How do I know which HCC counseling office to contact?
Start with the college-specific Contact Counseling directory linked from HCC’s mental health page. If you attend several locations or study online, ask the department which office should handle your request and confirm the appointment location.
Does a college support referral mean a counseling appointment is already booked?
Confirm that directly with the counseling office. Keep the appointment confirmation separate from a request for basic-needs help, accommodations or another support service, and ask whether further intake steps remain.
