Start with the forms for your counseling request
UIW asks students seeking individual or group counseling to complete three documents: the behavioral health intake, informed consent and privacy acknowledgment. Couples counseling has an additional form, and both participants complete the required paperwork. Open the university’s forms page for the current documents and submission instructions.
The office contacts you after receiving completed forms to discuss scheduling. Keep a note of when you submitted them, check the reply address and respond with workable times. If you have questions about sending sensitive information, ask the office about its accepted submission options. Paperwork completion begins the process; the office still needs to confirm an appointment.

Confirm the counseling location that fits your program
Behavioral Health Services lists locations at the Broadway campus, School of Osteopathic Medicine, Feik School of Pharmacy and School of Rehabilitative Sciences. Their published schedules differ. Tell the scheduler where you attend classes and ask which location and appointment format you should use.
UIW describes counseling as available without a charge for eligible registered students residing in Texas. Ask the office to confirm your situation if your enrollment or location changes. Before traveling to an appointment, check the building, room, time and whether the visit is in person or online. A general campus address may not be your counseling location.
Request psychiatry through Health Services
UIW Health Services publishes a separate psychiatry service for UIW students, with scheduled telemedicine visits. Its preparation instructions ask you to have your insurance card, current medication information and relevant allergy or health information ready. Contact that clinic to ask about its evaluation and scheduling process.
If another clinician already manages your medication, identify that office when arranging the visit and ask how any requested records should be shared. A campus counseling appointment does not establish a psychiatry appointment, and a requested evaluation does not guarantee a particular prescription. Confirm the cost and insurance handling with Health Services for the actual visit.

Discuss the kind of support you want to continue
UIW describes its Behavioral Health model as short-term counseling. The team may recommend another UIW service or a community provider when a student’s needs fall outside that model. A referral can happen at the first consultation or after further assessment.
Use that conversation to explain the practical goal: continuing an established therapy relationship, arranging care around clinical placements, or finding support outside the campus schedule. Ask which office will handle the next contact and what information it needs. If you already see an outside therapist, tell the campus clinician so the services and responsibilities can be clarified.
Handle cancellations and breaks with the right office
UIW’s counseling FAQ asks students to make, cancel and reschedule appointments directly with its front desk. It requests at least 24 hours’ cancellation notice and says adults must make their own appointments. Ask how to reach that desk before a timetable change or travel creates a conflict.
Health Services publishes its own clinic and holiday calendar. Check it separately if you also have a psychiatry visit. A useful calendar entry includes the responsible office, appointment format and cancellation instructions, so changing one visit does not leave a different appointment unresolved.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Does UIW counseling paperwork also book a psychiatry visit?
No. Behavioral Health Services uses counseling intake forms; Health Services publishes a separate psychiatry appointment route. Contact the office for the service you want and wait for its appointment confirmation.

Can a family member arrange my UIW counseling appointment?
UIW’s counseling FAQ says students aged 18 or older must make their own appointments. A supporter can help you prepare questions, but you should contact the front desk directly.
