Start with campus counseling and confirm eligibility
Lamar’s Counseling Services page describes access for currently enrolled Lamar University and Lamar Institute of Technology students. It distinguishes the first intake appointment from later counseling visits and asks students to allow time for check-in forms.
Tell the office whether this is your first visit or a return appointment, and ask what paperwork needs to be completed. If your enrollment has changed, confirm eligibility before relying on an old portal account. Ask directly about the current fee and cancellation terms for the appointment requested.

Use the phone when the portal does not show the service
Lamar’s scheduling page offers portal booking for many medical and counseling appointments, but tells students to call if the needed appointment type or time is missing. It says remote counseling and telemedicine appointments must be arranged by phone.
An empty search result in the portal does not establish why an appointment is unavailable. Call to clarify whether the service uses a different booking route, whether further information is needed or whether the office recommends another resource.

Arrange interpreter support before choosing the time
The scheduling page directs students who are deaf or hard of hearing and want an interpreter to arrange that support through the Accessibility Resource Center before scheduling. Ask the center and the clinic to confirm how the arrangements and appointment time will fit together.
Write down which office is responsible for the support request, which office books the clinical visit and how you will receive confirmation. If any communication need remains unresolved, clarify it before treating the appointment as ready. This page does not decide an individual accommodation request.

Choose the records form by direction and record type
Lamar publishes separate forms for information sent to the university and information released from it. Its outgoing forms also distinguish general records from psychotherapy notes. Ask the receiving clinician what information is needed and the records office which authorization applies.
Complete only the appropriate form with a verified recipient and destination. Keep a copy of the request and confirm that the receiving office obtained the needed material. Do not assume every appointment requires psychotherapy notes or that one form authorizes every kind of disclosure.
- Are records entering Lamar or leaving it?
- What specific material did the receiving professional request?
- Which authorization and submission route does the records office require?
- Who will confirm receipt and follow up if something is missing?

Confirm support away from Beaumont separately
Lamar’s local-resource page links campus appointments, TimelyCare and community resources, including options to consider outside the Beaumont area. A directory entry is an option to investigate, not evidence that an office is accepting patients or that a particular service is covered.
Before a break or a move, ask about eligibility, location requirements and the contact for your ongoing care. Confirm an outside practice’s intake, charges and insurance status directly. If medication questions are involved, ask the responsible medical clinician; counseling access alone does not establish a prescribing arrangement at Lamar or Lyte.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
What if the Lamar portal does not list the appointment I need?
Lamar’s scheduling page says to call the Student Health Center when the type or time is missing. Remote counseling and telemedicine have a phone scheduling route; do not assume the portal shows every option.

Should I use the same release for incoming records and psychotherapy notes?
Lamar lists separate incoming, outgoing and psychotherapy-note authorizations. Ask the records office which form fits the specific material and direction of the request.
