Tell the scheduler which PVAMU campus you attend
The Student Counseling Services contact page lists the main-campus office in Owens-Franklin Health Center, Suite 226. It also lists counseling at the Houston Northwest Center and College of Nursing campus. The Houston locations have designated service days rather than the same schedule as the main campus.
When you contact SCS, give your campus and the days you can attend. Ask whether the proposed appointment is at Prairie View, the Northwest Center or the nursing campus, and confirm the room before traveling. Use the current contact page for hours, including summer changes. A shared counseling phone contact does not mean every location has the same availability.
Prepare a clear question for the first counseling visit
PVAMU offers SCS to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. Its FAQ says the first visit includes preliminary paperwork and a conversation about your concerns and goals.
Prepare the main question you want answered and explain scheduling or other practical obstacles. Before leaving, ask which service is recommended, who arranges it and how you will receive confirmation.

Ask SCS for the medication-care referral route
The SCS FAQ says its counselors do not prescribe or dispense medication and can provide referral resources. State clearly if you need a psychiatric evaluation or help navigating an existing prescription.
Ask the receiving practice about its evaluation process, requested records, cost and follow-up. Tell your current prescriber about a proposed transfer and clarify whom to contact until arrangements are complete. A referral does not confirm acceptance or a particular treatment.

Use Medical Services for its separate administrative process
PVAMU Medical Services links to a Panther Portal appointment route, eligibility information, medical forms and a separate clinic contact. Those resources belong to the medical service; use SCS instructions when arranging counseling. If a referral sends you between the two offices, ask which office is taking the next action.
For a medical visit, confirm whether you need a new-patient form or an existing account before trying to schedule. Keep medical documents in the submission channel the clinic identifies. If a portal or form does not open, contact the clinic for the current route instead of sending health information to an unrelated university inbox.

Separate the student fee from individual medical charges
PVAMU’s Medical Services fee page says the semester Health Services fee provides reduced-rate services. It also describes visit copayments and separate charges for items such as medications and laboratory work. Ask for the cost of the exact service and how payment will be collected.
The page lists payment options that include a student fee account. If another person helps pay that account, ask the clinic what billing information will appear before choosing that option. Check cancellation terms when booking, and verify current amounts directly because fees can change. These campus medical payment rules do not establish what counseling or an independent practice will charge.
Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
