Confirm the current campus entry process
SHSU’s Counseling Center page tells students to call or visit the office to make an appointment and describes both in-person and telehealth options. Its current page also lists individual, couples and group counseling; for couples counseling, both participants must be current SHSU students.
Explain whether you are seeking your first appointment, returning to care or asking about a different service. Confirm the current procedure with the center rather than relying on an older catalog’s description of walk-in screening hours.

Use case management when the connection is the problem
The center publishes case-management and referral help for students connecting with outside providers or navigating community resources. If an earlier referral did not work, state the specific barrier so that the next conversation can address it.
Keep a short list of practices contacted and their responses. Separate no availability from an unsuitable service, an unresolved cost question or an intake form that has not been acknowledged. Ask whom to contact again if another attempt fails.
- What need is this referral intended to address?
- Which office will receive the request, and does it need a formal referral?
- What records or permission forms are required?
- What should I do if the office declines or cannot offer the requested service?

Check the psychiatry referral source
SHSU’s TimelyCare instructions distinguish psychiatry from scheduled counseling and on-demand emotional support. They list three possible psychiatry referral sources: the SHSU Counseling Center, the SHSU Student Health Center or a TimelyCare provider.
Ask the referring service how to complete the referral and how you will be notified of the next step. Being registered in the app does not confirm a psychiatry appointment or establish that another clinician has taken over existing treatment.

Check the scheduled-counseling allowance before planning ahead
The SHSU TimelyCare page publishes an annual allowance for scheduled counseling, an August-to-July year and possible charges once that allowance is reached. It describes access for currently enrolled students using an active SHSU email.
Check your current remaining allowance and eligibility in the service before planning visits across a new term. Ask about options when the allowance is nearly used or enrollment will change. Do not treat free on-demand emotional support as proof that every scheduled service is unlimited.

Write down the plan that is actually confirmed
Use three entries: the appointment already confirmed, the referral still in progress and the person to contact about unresolved questions. If a move, leave or graduation is approaching, add the date and physical location expected for future visits and ask each service about its rules.
When choosing a community practice, verify its intake, cost and insurance requirements separately. A campus service or referral does not establish coverage at Lyte. If medication is part of existing care, ask the current prescribing clinician how to handle questions during the transition rather than assuming an app or new office will provide a prescription.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Who can refer an SHSU student to TimelyCare psychiatry?
SHSU’s published page lists the Counseling Center, Student Health Center or a TimelyCare provider. Confirm the referral steps with the service involved; registration alone does not complete the process.

Are all TimelyCare scheduled counseling visits unlimited?
No. SHSU publishes an annual scheduled-counseling allowance and says fees can apply once it is reached. Check the current allowance, remaining visits and eligibility before arranging ongoing sessions.
