Ask specifically for mental health counseling
San Jacinto’s mental health page directs students to a Center for Advising, Career & Transfer office, the student support email or its linked online appointment system. It states that counseling and support services are offered to students eighteen and older.
When contacting the office, say that you are requesting mental health counseling rather than course selection or transfer advising. Include your preferred campus and a safe way to contact you. Ask whether there is an intake form to complete and what confirmation to expect. You can explain the purpose of the request without putting your entire personal history in an initial scheduling message.

Confirm the campus and appointment purpose
The official page lists counseling contacts at Central, North and South campuses. Use those current listings when arranging a visit rather than assuming the office is in the same place as your academic advisor.
Before traveling, confirm the campus, office and appointment time in one message or calendar entry. If your class schedule changes, ask whether the original appointment remains workable or needs to be rescheduled. If you are contacting student support on someone else’s suggestion, ask what information has already been shared and what you still need to submit yourself. A recommendation to contact counseling does not tell you whether a visit was booked.

Keep the screening separate from counseling intake
San Jacinto offers an anonymous online mental health screening and explicitly describes it as something other than a diagnostic evaluation. Completing it does not establish that a counselor has reviewed your situation or knows you want an appointment.
If you want to discuss the results, use the counseling contact route and ask how to bring them to the conversation. Do not assume the screening system sends identifiable information to the college. If you have a particular administrative need, such as help finding an outside service, name that need directly rather than expecting a screening score to route the request.

Check the outside service’s process and cost
The college says campus counseling has no fee and that counselors can refer students for longer-term services or needs the college does not provide. It also distinguishes those visits from outside agencies, which may charge fees.
For a referral, ask for the organization’s exact contact information and the reason for the suggested route. Then confirm whether you must call, submit an intake or wait for a referral to be received. Ask the agency about fees and any insurance requirements. If cost or travel prevents booking, report that specific problem to student support. Keep the new appointment request separate from any question about records or authorization to share information.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Is a counseling appointment the same as an advising appointment?
The mental health page uses Centers for Advising, Career & Transfer as contact points, but the purposes differ. Clearly request mental health counseling and confirm the service named in your appointment instructions.

Will a referral to an outside agency also be free?
San Jacinto says its own counseling has no fee but an outside agency may charge. Ask the receiving organization about its charges, eligibility and insurance process before treating the referral as an affordable appointment.
