Start student counseling with the HCC phone triage
HCC Counseling Services asks students to call its office to arrange an initial telephone triage. That conversation helps identify an appropriate service. Its eligibility information generally includes enrolled undergraduate and graduate students; incoming students become eligible when they move onto campus or classes begin.
Before calling, write down the practical result you need: an initial conversation, help finding longer-term support, or assistance locating medication care. You do not need to decide the treatment yourself. Ask what happens after triage and how the office will communicate the recommendation. Save the confirmed appointment details separately from any general inquiry.

Ask case management about medication-care referrals
The university describes HCC counseling as short-term care. Its clinical case-management service connects students with community resources when they need psychiatry, medication management, specialized assessment or services beyond that model.
If you already work with a prescriber, explain whether you are seeking an additional consultation or hoping to transfer care. Ask the receiving office which records it needs, who will review the request and what an initial assessment involves. Keep treatment questions with your current clinician while arrangements are being discussed. A referral is a starting point for contact, not confirmation that another practice has accepted you.

Identify the Ascension medical appointment separately
St. Edward's describes its Ascension Medical Group Seton clinic as a primary-care service with its own scheduling route. The service list includes medication reviews. That wording alone does not establish that every psychiatric prescribing request can be managed there.
Tell the clinic what type of visit you are requesting before choosing a time. Ask whether it can assess the concern, whether another office needs to be involved, and which payment arrangement applies. The university lists student-plan, private-insurance and self-pay information; confirm your exact plan and expected charges with the clinic. Do not carry a campus payment assumption into a separate practice.

Recognize the Community Counseling Clinic as a different program
The Community Counseling Clinic is operated through the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences and serves the wider community. Counseling is provided by graduate trainees with licensed faculty supervision. Its page describes individual, couple and family services, Spanish counseling, in-person visits and telehealth.
Use that clinic's own contact route to ask about screening, current fees, scheduling and service fit. If cost is the obstacle, ask what financial accommodations can be considered before committing. Confirm whether the appointment being discussed is an eligibility conversation or a therapy session. The HCC student-counseling intake does not substitute for this clinic's process.
Resolve travel plans with the office providing care
HCC Counseling Services says it helps students outside Texas connect with services in their own state when ongoing counseling is needed. Tell the team where you will physically be during a break or placement.
Make a short handoff note with the office name, next appointment, outstanding paperwork and person responsible for follow-up. Ask about a secure method before sending clinical records. A complete handoff should answer who to contact next, not simply leave you with another website to search.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
How can a St. Edward's student ask for psychiatry or medication management?
Contact HCC Counseling Services and ask about clinical case management for a community referral. The university identifies psychiatry and medication management as reasons for that referral pathway.

Is the Community Counseling Clinic the same as HCC Counseling Services?
They publish different service descriptions and contact routes. The Community Counseling Clinic is a supervised graduate-training clinic serving the public; students should use the intake process for the specific program they intend to contact.
