Use the Student Counseling Center's initial triage
St. Mary's asks students to call or visit the Student Counseling Center to arrange a 15-minute triage. The conversation can lead to a consultation, brief therapy, a workshop or a referral. The center describes its services as available without an additional charge to currently enrolled students.
Be ready to explain what you want help arranging and any scheduling obstacle, such as a class block or commute. Ask whether the next contact will be with the same office or a different service. Write down the name of that service and the action expected from you before leaving the conversation.
Ask directly about the limited psychiatry service
The counseling center lists psychiatry but explicitly says this service is limited and directs interested students to call for details. Its public page does not establish a current opening or guarantee that it can take over an existing prescription.
When you contact the office, separate the request into clear questions: can it assess your particular concern, what records are required, and what should happen if it cannot provide the service? If another clinician already manages your medication, ask that clinician how to coordinate a possible transfer. Do not interpret an intake request as a completed handoff.
Use the Rattler Patient Portal for Student Health Center business
The Student Health Center directs students through Gateway to the Rattler Patient Portal for medical scheduling and secure messages. It publishes a separate phone route and medical-records assistance. Its billing information distinguishes the Student Health Insurance Plan from other insurance and uninsured visits.
Check the expected charge for the exact visit you are arranging. If a charge goes to your student account, ask how to obtain the paperwork needed for any insurance claim. Keep medical billing questions with the Health Center rather than assuming the counseling center's no-additional-charge arrangement applies. Request records through the office that actually holds them.

Consider the Family Life Center through its own intake
St. Mary's also operates the Family Life Center, a public counseling clinic staffed by clinicians in training under licensed faculty supervision. It describes services for children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, with fees based on financial circumstances and some Spanish-speaking counselors.
This may be a useful office to ask about when a partner or family member needs counseling, but do not assume eligibility or an appointment from the general description. Explain who would participate, the preferred language and the schedule you can maintain. Ask what documentation is needed for the fee discussion and whether the service fits your request.
Check your particular service before a university break
The counseling center describes year-round services, while the Health Center warns that medical availability changes during breaks. The counseling page also states that its telehealth clients must be in Texas. Those are separate conditions to confirm with the office you use.
Before traveling, ask about the next scheduled contact and where you will be allowed to attend it. If care will change, obtain the next office's contact details and records instructions. For a private virtual conversation, choose a place where you can speak without roommates or family overhearing.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Can St. Mary's students access campus psychiatry?
The Student Counseling Center lists limited psychiatry services. Call the center to ask about current access and suitability; its listing does not confirm a medication appointment.
Are the Family Life Center and Student Counseling Center interchangeable?
No. The Family Life Center serves the public through supervised trainees and has its own fees and intake. The Student Counseling Center is the enrolled-student service. Contact the program whose services match your request.
