Check counseling access for your enrollment and location
TAMUK’s counseling page includes currently enrolled students on the main campus, fully online students and students at off-site instructional locations such as Weslaco, Harlingen and RELLIS. It describes counseling without an additional charge and offers in-person visits in Kingsville as well as remote counseling.
Contact SHW Counseling Services to identify the appropriate appointment route for your location. Explain whether you want to begin counseling, return after a gap or ask about a service you already receive elsewhere. Ask which forms and contact details to use, and keep the appointment confirmation. A broad eligibility statement does not confirm that a particular clinician or time is available.

Understand the ongoing-counseling requirement for psychiatry
TAMUK’s psychiatry page describes telepsychiatry through a partnership with Texas A&M Health Science Center. Referrals and appointments go through SHW Counseling Services. Eligibility requires current TAMUK enrollment and active participation in ongoing counseling with that campus service.
The page says students receiving only outside counseling, or seeking medication care without campus counseling, can receive community-referral help instead. It also states that the psychiatrist cannot refill medication prescribed by another provider. Ask SHW which route fits your existing care before assuming a campus psychiatry transfer. The published appointment benefit is separate from possible medication costs.

Complete both the remote-visit setup and intake
TAMUK’s distance-learning instructions require students to be physically in Texas during campus telemental-health appointments and to have internet access, Zoom and a private setting. After an appointment is arranged, students receive meeting information and a link to the Titanium intake portal.
Complete the requested intake before the visit and retain the meeting instructions in a place you can find. If you will travel outside Texas or cannot find a confidential room, contact the counselor before the session. The university says the initial intake also considers whether remote counseling is appropriate and that distance learners can ask for help locating other services.

Use Let’s Talk for an informal starting conversation
Let’s Talk is TAMUK’s drop-in consultation program. The university describes short conversations without an appointment or intake paperwork, available to students, staff and faculty. Its events calendar provides the current date, time and location.
This can be a way to ask where to start or how to support a friend. TAMUK explicitly distinguishes it from regular counseling: attending does not establish you as a Counseling Services client or create ongoing sessions. If you want therapy or need to explore the campus psychiatry requirements, ask how to arrange the separate counseling intake before leaving the consultation.

Keep the Javelina Health Clinic account separate
The Javelina Health Clinic is TAMUK’s primary-care service with Community Action Corporation of South Texas. The university describes its own appointment options and Healow patient-account process. Students establishing an account can ask the clinic for login assistance and the current registration instructions.
Primary-care registration does not establish eligibility for SHW’s separate psychiatry program. If the clinic recommends another service, ask where the referral goes and what records are needed. Before using any outside practice, confirm that practice’s fees and insurance arrangements directly. A campus primary-care benefit should not be assumed to pay for independent therapy or psychiatric visits.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Can I use TAMUK campus psychiatry while seeing only an outside therapist?
The published campus psychiatry program requires active participation in ongoing SHW counseling. Its page says students using outside counseling can receive help with a community medication-care referral. Ask SHW to confirm your options.

Does Let’s Talk count as enrolling in ongoing TAMUK counseling?
No. TAMUK describes Let’s Talk as an informal consultation that does not make you a Counseling Services client. Ask separately about intake if you want ongoing counseling.

What do TAMUK distance learners need before a remote counseling visit?
Follow the appointment email, complete the Titanium intake forms and arrange internet, Zoom and a confidential location. TAMUK requires you to be physically in Texas for its telemental-health service.
