Request the external referral before starting services
The community-partners page says the referral requirement began September 1, 2026. It directs students to the External Counseling Referral Request Form and asks them to select a preferred community provider.
Start with that page to identify the university’s listed options and the current request link. If you already arranged an appointment, ask Student Counseling Services how the requirement applies before relying on program arrangements. Keep a note of the selected provider so the referral and your later booking concern the same office. A provider directory entry alone does not complete the referral request.

Receive the referral, then contact the provider
The published sequence sends the completed referral to the student’s university email. After receiving it, the student contacts the chosen community provider directly to schedule the initial appointment.
Watch the account specified in the instructions and check that the referral names the intended provider. If it is missing or incorrect, ask Student Counseling Services to resolve the issue. When contacting the provider, explain that you have the university referral and ask about its intake requirements and available appointment times. Keep the provider’s confirmation separately; receiving a referral does not select a date for you.

Bring the referral and current student ID
The community-partners instructions require students to present the referral and their current Texas Tech Health El Paso student ID at the initial appointment.
Before the visit, ask the receiving office how it wants those items presented and whether it has additional intake documents. If the appointment is virtual, clarify the approved delivery method rather than emailing identification to an address you have not verified. Confirm the visit location or connection instructions together with the date. Ask about any unresolved program or financial question before assuming all services at that office fall under the university arrangement.

Resolve enrollment and evening-access questions with the right office
The community route is described for currently enrolled students. The main counseling FAQ treats some leave-of-absence situations individually and says campus counseling does not offer after-hours appointments.
If you are on leave, tell Student Counseling Services the planned return date and ask which options apply; do not transfer a campus exception automatically to the community program. For an evening visit, ask the selected provider about its actual schedule. Keep a referral problem with the campus service and a booking change with the receiving office, while confirming whether either change requires an updated referral.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
