Start with the Student Counseling Center
UT Dallas’s Student Counseling Center, or SCC, provides brief, goal-focused mental-health care. The current university catalog lists 972-883-2575 and counselingcenter@utdallas.edu as contacts. Ask for the current initial-consultation route if you have not used the center before.
You do not need to decide on a diagnosis before asking for help. Prepare a short description of the difficulty you want to address and what you hope will change. For example, you might want help with persistent worry, disrupted sleep, a relationship problem or keeping up with daily responsibilities. Use those concerns to start a conversation, rather than requesting a treatment based only on a search result.

Ask which psychiatry route applies to you
UT Dallas’s 2026 catalog lists psychiatric evaluations and medication management through SCC. Ask the center which intake or referral step applies to you and whether campus care, TimelyCare or a community service fits the request.
If you already take medication, tell the team that you are asking about continuity of care. Ask which records the receiving clinician needs and who remains responsible for questions until the new appointment. An outside clinician will make their own assessment; a prior prescription does not guarantee that another practice will continue it.
- Which service should I request if I need a medication evaluation?
- Am I asking for SCC psychiatry, TimelyCare psychiatry or an outside referral?
- How do I arrange records and confirm the first appointment?

Keep virtual counseling and psychiatry requests separate
The current university catalog lists TimelyCare access for individual therapy, psychiatric services and peer support. Contact SCC for the current access instructions for the particular service you need. An app account is not confirmation that a psychiatry appointment has been arranged.
Before choosing a virtual appointment, ask which service you are booking, how follow-up works and what restrictions apply where you will physically be. Reserve a private place and enough time for the visit. If your class or work schedule makes privacy difficult, raise that problem while arranging the appointment rather than after the call begins.

When you need ongoing or specialized outside care
The catalog describes SCC counseling as brief and goal-focused. If you want a longer-term treatment relationship or a service outside that model, ask the team about community options and how to begin a referral.
Take a referral as a starting point for your own checks. Confirm the clinician’s service, fees, insurance status and location before booking. If both a therapist and prescriber will be involved, ask how they can exchange relevant information with your authorization. Agree on whom you should contact for each type of question.
- Therapy: goals, appointment frequency and who will provide follow-up.
- Medication: evaluation process, records needed and the contact for treatment questions.
- Costs: the exact plan and clinician, deductible and any separate charges.
- Semester changes: where visits can take place when you travel or leave campus.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Does booking therapy also book a medication appointment?
No. Ask the service you contact to confirm whether you are arranging counseling, an initial consultation or a psychiatric evaluation. Keep the provider name and appointment type in your confirmation.
Will a university referral pay for outside treatment?
Confirm the outside practice’s fees and your exact insurance benefits separately. A referral or a university-funded service does not by itself establish payment at a community clinic.
Is Lyte part of UT Dallas?
No. Lyte is an independent outpatient practice. University resources and Lyte appointments are separate choices.
