Check ongoing CAPS eligibility before choosing a route
UTEP’s CAPS FAQ ties ongoing campus services to current enrollment and payment of Student Service Fees. It says students who do not pay those fees can still speak with a counselor for help finding community referrals.
If your program, enrollment or fee arrangement is unusual, ask CAPS which route applies. Bring that question to the office rather than treating a university email account as proof of access to every service. A referral conversation and eligibility for ongoing counseling are different decisions.

Arrange the intake and ask what follows it
The student-services instructions direct students to call CAPS, complete initial paperwork and arrange an intake. At that meeting, the counselor discusses concerns and recommends an appropriate service, which may include counseling, workshops, consultation or a referral.
Confirm your appointment format and check-in instructions with the office. At the end of the intake, ask what is already booked and what still requires a separate call, form or referral. Record the next contact so the recommendation becomes an actionable step.
- Which service is being recommended and why should I contact it?
- Has an appointment been confirmed, or am I still requesting one?
- What information does the next office need?
- Who should I contact if I cannot make the connection?

Give the actual location for each virtual visit
UTEP’s TimelyCare page distinguishes scheduled counseling available within the United States from some support services described as internationally accessible. It does not describe every service as available in every country.
If you commute across a state or international border, travel or move during a break, tell the service where you will be at the time of the visit. Ask about the particular appointment type. Do not assume that Texas enrollment, a Texas mailing address or an app login authorizes a clinical visit while you are elsewhere.

Keep on-demand support and ongoing care distinct
UTEP lists a scheduled-counseling allowance separately from TalkNow emotional support. Its page describes TalkNow as supplemental support and gives a separate crisis route. Check the current scheduled-service allowance and eligibility instead of assuming that all services have the same limits.
If an ongoing community service is recommended, verify its intake, charges, insurance and location rules directly. Tell the campus contact if a referral cannot meet the need. Medication-related questions belong with the medical professional responsible for your care; campus counseling or app access alone does not confirm prescribing services.

Identify a documentation request early
UTEP’s FAQ distinguishes attendance confirmation from letters containing a clinical recommendation. It says clinical recommendation requests must arise within an established therapeutic relationship and that a letter is not guaranteed. An initial intake alone does not establish that documentation will be provided.
Ask the office requesting the document what information it needs and by when. Then ask the relevant clinician or campus service whether it can consider the request. Keep the deadline, required content and responsible office separate from your routine appointment booking. Do not start or transfer care on the assumption that a particular letter will result.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Can every UTEP virtual service be used outside the United States?
No. UTEP describes different geographic access for different TimelyCare services. Give your actual appointment location and confirm the specific service before booking; do not infer cross-border clinical access from app availability.

Does a CAPS intake guarantee an accommodation or recommendation letter?
No. UTEP distinguishes attendance confirmation from clinical recommendation letters and sets additional conditions for the latter. Ask about the specific request and deadline; the treating professional decides whether it can be supported.
