Request the first visit through Student Counseling Services
UTHealth Houston directs students to call or visit Student Counseling Services during office hours to arrange the first appointment.
Explain that you are requesting an initial visit and provide your school or program when asked. If you have used the service before, say so before assuming the initial-visit description applies. Ask where the appointment will take place, what documents to prepare and how the office will confirm the booking. Use the current scheduling page to find the office contact rather than a general patient-care number for the university.

Ask which financial description applies to the booked visit
The billing page describes the first provider appointment as complimentary and says subsequent visits are billed through insurance. These are separate parts of the service’s published process.
Ask staff which category applies to the visit they are arranging and whether there are any separate services or charges to discuss. When a later appointment is recommended, obtain the information needed for a benefits inquiry before treating the first-visit description as an estimate. Record the answer with the visit type and date so you can return to a specific question if the billing information is unclear.

Take the provider details to your insurer
UTHealth Houston tells students to verify coverage and ask about in-network or out-of-network benefits, copayments, deductibles and coinsurance.
Request the provider and service details from the office, then check those details against your current plan. If you recently changed coverage, confirm which member information the office has. Ask the insurer what the answer means for the planned service and retain a reference for the conversation. A university description of accepted plans cannot establish the amount payable for every student or every appointment.

Send unresolved financial questions to the billing contact
The service’s billing page identifies a Clinical Billing Manager for insurance and billing questions. Its appointment information separately discusses follow-up visits arranged according to the care plan.
Use the billing contact for an unclear charge or insurance question and the scheduling team for an appointment change. State the administrative issue briefly and ask how to provide any supporting account information through the approved channel. Before a follow-up, settle who is arranging the visit and who is checking the financial question. If another practice is involved, verify its process independently rather than assuming the university’s arrangements carry over.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Does the first-visit billing description apply to all later counseling appointments?
