Tell Student Health which appointment you are requesting
UTMB Student Health and Counseling describes psychological counseling and psychiatry alongside its medical services. The student health page provides an online scheduling link and contact information for the clinic.
When requesting a visit, specify whether you want counseling intake, a psychiatry appointment or help with an existing appointment. Ask which forms and records are needed for that request. If a clinician elsewhere already knows your history, obtain the receiving office’s preferred transfer instructions before sending documents. A generic student-health appointment should not be assumed to reserve a particular specialist or complete a transfer of care.

Distinguish counseling costs from psychiatry billing
UTMB states that counseling and therapy visits are free for current students, while psychiatry and medical appointments are billed to insurance. That distinction matters even when the services share the Student Health and Counseling name.
For an insurance-billed appointment, ask the office which service will be billed and verify the plan details with your insurer. Check the member information in the clinic record if your coverage changed with enrollment, employment or a family plan. Ask where a billing question should go before the appointment. Being a current student does not by itself answer the amount your particular plan may leave you to pay.

Confirm the format around classes and placements
UTMB describes both in-person and virtual student health appointments. If your training schedule will take you away from campus, tell the clinic the dates and physical location before relying on a virtual option.
Ask whether the specific service can be provided in that format and location, what technology is required and where the confirmation will appear. If the answer is no, ask which scheduling or referral step to take next. Keep the clinic appointment in your personal calendar with sufficient travel time. Approval of a training placement and approval of a remote health appointment are separate decisions made through different processes.

Ask for the document you actually need
UTMB distinguishes proof of a clinic visit from a medical excuse for an absence. Its policy describes visit documentation limited to the visit date and time and places academic decisions with faculty. It also describes MyChart for account information and nonurgent messages.
If you need evidence that you attended a visit, ask the receptionist about that document. If your program needs something else, obtain its exact requirement and ask the appropriate office how to proceed. Do not send a full clinical record simply because a brief attendance document was requested. For a record transfer to another clinician, ask for the separate authorization process and confirm delivery with the recipient.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Are psychiatry appointments included in UTMB’s free counseling visits?
UTMB’s page distinguishes the two: counseling and therapy are free for current students, while psychiatry and medical appointments are billed to insurance. Confirm the visit type and your individual benefits before the appointment.

Will a Student Health visit automatically excuse a missed class or placement?
No. UTMB’s published policy separates documentation of a visit from decisions about academic absences. Ask your program about its requirements and the clinic about the appropriate visit document instead of assuming an appointment automatically grants an excuse.
