What happens at a first psychiatry appointment?
A first psychiatric appointment is an assessment of your concerns, health history, current symptoms and goals. The clinician uses that information to discuss possible explanations and next steps; a screening score alone is not a diagnosis.

Bring a medication list, past treatment information and two or three priorities. Ask how long your scheduled visit will be, what the plan is and when to follow up. You can ask for an explanation of recommendations and discuss alternatives; an evaluation does not guarantee a prescription.
