What if my insurance denies my medication?
Ask the insurer or pharmacy for the exact reason the medication was denied, then send the notice to your prescriber. A denial may involve authorization, a formulary restriction, step therapy or another benefit rule; it is not always the same problem.

Ask whether the next step is additional documentation, a coverage exception, an appeal or a clinically appropriate alternative. Medicare Part D and other plans have different processes and deadlines. If you may run out, contact your prescriber and pharmacist promptly; do not change or ration medication without guidance.
