Check that you are using the right assistance route
OIEC identifies a specialized First Responder Unit. Its ombudsman service assists unrepresented injured employees with disputes; an ombudsman is not an attorney representing the worker. Tell OIEC if an attorney is involved and ask whether the office can assist with the particular issue.
Prepare a short description of the help you are requesting using the actual notice or correspondence. If a mental-health-related issue is involved, identify the claim question without deciding yourself whether a condition is compensable. Questions about benefit entitlement, legal strategy or a disputed deadline need the appropriate qualified contact.

Collect the claim references before starting
Have the relevant claim correspondence available. The intake packet asks about claim details, providers and upcoming deadlines. Copy a deadline from the actual notice and keep that notice with your request; do not substitute a date calculated from a general online description.
Make a private list of the offices that have treated the claimed injury and their contact information. Mark information you still need to obtain. Ask OIEC how to handle an unknown field rather than inventing a claim number, provider detail or date to make the packet look complete.

Review each component before signing
The packet includes intake information, a treatment/provider list, a disclosure authorization and an assistance request. Read each component and its signature instructions. The authorization includes choices about records; ask OIEC and the records office to explain anything you do not understand before deciding what to authorize.
Check names, dates and contact details across the pages. Keep your own copy of the version you plan to send. Do not attach a complete mental-health file simply because records may eventually be needed; ask what is being requested and how the authorized records process should work.

Use the current submission instructions
OIEC’s intake page lists several submission routes and instructs applicants to sign the forms. Use its current instructions to choose a route you can complete. If you want to deliver a packet in person, confirm the location and arrangements with the office first.
After sending, save the confirmation and ask how to verify that the packet is complete and assigned to the right contact. Keep later claim notices together with your earlier submission so you can tell the office what changed. An intake submission is a request for assistance, not a decision on the underlying claim or an appointment with a treating clinician.

Your next-step checklist
- Identify the disputed issue and any attorney involvement.
- Keep the actual claim notices and stated deadlines.
- Collect provider contact information for the requested list.
- Read the authorization and assistance request before signing.
- Save a copy and confirm receipt through OIEC’s current process.
Keep personal, insurance and medical information in the appropriate organization’s approved secure channel.
Common questions
Does OIEC intake determine whether PTSD or another condition is covered?
No conclusion about an individual claim is made by this checklist. Ask the specialized unit about the issue and the applicable process; do not treat submission of a packet as approval.

Will the ombudsman act as my attorney?
OIEC distinguishes assistance from representation. Ask the office to explain its role, and seek qualified legal advice when you need advice or representation.
