Confirm the coverage ending before choosing a replacement
TRICARE Young Adult has conditions involving age, marital status, the sponsor and other coverage. Eligibility for a health plan through the adult child’s own employment matters even if that person has not enrolled in it.
Ask the contractor to confirm the current dependent-coverage end and the information needed to review eligibility. Keep the answer with school or employment details that may be relevant, rather than applying a friend’s age-out experience to your situation.
Use the adult child’s location and available option
The adult child can live in a different TRICARE region from the sponsor. The available Prime or Select option depends on the applicable program conditions.
Give the contractor the adult child’s actual location and sponsor information. Ask which enrollment form or online selection applies before sending a packet to the sponsor’s usual contractor. This step identifies an administrative route; it does not choose the best health plan for you.

Keep the application and premium step together
TRICARE lists milConnect Beneficiary Web Enrollment, phone and regional DD Form 2947 routes. The mail or fax instructions include an initial two-month premium payment.
Use the current regional instructions and confirm how payment should be made. Save the final application and payment confirmation, and note any requested coverage-start date. Ask the contractor about unresolved items rather than assuming a downloaded form or submitted payment means enrollment is complete.

Wait for confirmation and update appointment details
The contractor or US Family Health Plan notifies the applicant when enrollment is processed. TRICARE then describes downloading the enrollment card and obtaining an updated identification card when coverage begins.
Check the confirmed plan and start date against appointments already scheduled. Give the receiving practice the new details and ask about the exact clinician, service and billing arrangement. A Young Adult enrollment does not automatically establish a new provider relationship.

Common questions
Can I assume military dependent coverage continues until age 26?
No. Regular TRICARE dependent coverage and purchased TRICARE Young Adult have different conditions. Ask the contractor to confirm the end date and eligibility for a replacement option.
Does the sponsor’s region determine where I apply?
Not necessarily. TRICARE says the adult child may live in a different region. Use the region and available option that apply to the person enrolling.
