Start with this year’s plan and your employer’s region
Open the current TRS-ActiveCare plan details page and locate your employer’s Education Service Center region. TRS explains that its published total premiums are different from the amount an employee pays after the employer contribution. Keep the plan year, exact option, employer, and employee premium together in your notes.
If you have an older benefits booklet saved, compare its year with the current document before relying on it. Ask district benefits staff which document governs your enrollment. A useful first message is: “Can you confirm my current plan option and the mental health benefits contact for that option?” You do not need a symptom history to ask this administrative question.

Compare the official access routes
TRS’s mental health resource page identifies Provider Finder, Teladoc, Headway, and Personal Health Guide navigation as access routes for TRS-ActiveCare participants. Because that article is dated, use it as a starting map and confirm current availability and terms through your plan. Do not carry an older article’s price or appointment claim into a new booking.
Make a short comparison with one row per route: who schedules, which clinician you would see, whether the visit is therapy or a medication evaluation, what plan verification is needed, and whom to contact afterward. Ask whether a referral or authorization is needed for your specific option rather than assuming all routes operate alike.

Ask about the actual appointment
Before choosing an outside practice, give both the practice and the plan the exact plan name and proposed clinician. Ask them to check the service and visit format you intend to book. Record who answered, the date, and any reference number. A directory listing is a useful lead; you still need an answer about the appointment in front of you.
Keep the district EAP question separate: “Is this being arranged under an EAP benefit, or billed to my medical plan?” If a clinician is recommended through one channel, ask whether that recommendation includes scheduling, network verification, or only contact information. A recommendation does not tell you whether Lyte or another practice can use an EAP authorization.
Build a plan around the school calendar
Write down the days you can reliably leave a classroom, campus duty, or another work assignment. Ask the practice about visit length, paperwork, rescheduling, and follow-up scheduling before choosing a time. Give a second workable window so that one cancelled meeting does not end the search.
For a virtual appointment, check the location and technology in advance. HHS recommends a quiet place where you can speak openly and testing your device and connection. An empty classroom may still have interruptions; decide whether another location gives you a more dependable appointment window.
Your next-step checklist
- Current insurance card and plan year identified.
- Employer region and current plan document located.
- EAP and medical-plan questions written separately.
- Specific clinician, service, and visit format ready for verification.
- Two realistic appointment windows and a private location selected.
Keep personal, insurance and medical information in the appropriate organization’s approved secure channel.
Common questions
Does the TRS published premium tell me my therapy visit cost?
No. TRS distinguishes total premiums from the employee contribution. Ask your plan for the expected cost of the specific clinician and service; do not use either premium figure as a visit estimate.

Does this guide mean Lyte participates in my TRS-ActiveCare option?
No. Check your exact option, clinician, and appointment with the plan and practice. This guide identifies questions and official benefit routes, not a participation determination.
