Done right, they give your personality back. What most people actually report is relief: the humor, patience, and interest that depression flattened come home again. "I feel like myself" is the sentence we hear.
Feeling numb or flat is not the goal. It's a known side effect of too high a dose or the wrong medication, and it's fixable. Tell your prescriber instead of quietly quitting; a dose change or a switch usually solves it within weeks.
