It might be the most wonderful time of the year for some people while for others Christmas may cause anxiety, loss, depression, and debt. The holidays come with pressure. The pressure to socialize more, the pressure to have your life together, and even the pressure to buy things for everyone. As you’re getting ready for the holidays, here are some hacks that can mentally prepare you for Christmas:
Plan Ahead: there are still a few weeks till Christmas, so you can take a few hours to organize your thoughts, fix your schedule, and create a to-do list.
Stick with your budget: Christmas shopping can be very costly and you may feel overwhelmed, stressed, or out of control. Having a set budget and sticking to it alleviates anxiety. Remember, shopping online saves you from the horrors of traffic and parking during the holidays.
Lean on your support system: reach out to those who care for you, be it friends, family, or a neighbor. Spend time with them. You can also attend festival events with them to keep you in the festive spirit.
Make time for self-care: you can only function well when you’re being taken care of. So prioritize your mental health, exercise, meditate, and journal. Whatever self-care is to you, bask in it even if it’s for a few minutes a day.
Ask for help: No one is an island so ask for help and be specific about it. You can call a friend to go shopping with you, ask your partner to help you cook for the holidays or even order in to make life easier for you.
Your mental health matters, especially during the holidays. For further help, reach out to a psychiatrist, mental health nurse practitioner, or therapist in Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio, Tx area, we offer both virtual and in-person appointments. Visit and contact us at https://www.lytepsych.com.
