Ask an advisor which request and deadline fit
Wiley directs students to an academic advisor before applying and recommends discussing financial implications with Financial Aid and the Business Office.
Start your inquiry with the semester and whether classes have ended. Ask which process applies, which deadline controls it and where to get the current WE application. Keep the answers with your working packet. If an office refers you elsewhere, ask for the receiving office’s name and the specific question it should resolve.

Prepare the application, explanation and evidence
The packet requires a WE application, personal letter and printed evidence. The typed letter allows two double-spaced pages or one single-spaced page; connect reasons to documents and include relevant chronology.
Draft your explanation in your own words. Give each attachment a recognizable filename, then check whether the letter identifies the document it discusses. Ask the receiving office about evidence you cannot obtain. For clinical material, share the actual instructions with your treating office and ask what it can appropriately provide before committing to a delivery date.

Track the packet through the four offices
Wiley specifies this order: Student Health, Counseling and Wellness; Dean of Students; Provost; Registrar.
Before delivery, ask how the packet moves between those offices and what you must do yourself. Keep a simple record with the office, delivery date, acknowledgment and next action. If you receive conflicting instructions, ask the current recipient to clarify the handoff. Retain the exact version sent so a later request for missing material is easier to resolve.

Check the decision and your academic record
After approval, the Registrar emails the student and records WE; students must monitor JICS.
Keep the decision with the packet. Compare it with the term shown in your account, and ask the Registrar about any discrepancy. If you have only a receipt, ask what remains under review. Write down unresolved questions separately from completed steps so that sending a document does not become your only evidence of the outcome.

Confirm all return conditions before arranging re-entry
Return requires a readiness letter reviewed by the Registrar with the Provost. For medical or mental-health WE, the handbook also requires ongoing appropriate psychological treatment for at least six weeks, unless the Associate Vice President of Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness approves otherwise. It separately requires treatment proof before re-entry eligibility.
That is the university’s condition, not an individual treatment recommendation. Ask the responsible office how the requirement or exception applies and what proof it needs. Review those instructions with your treating professional. Before sending a return request, ask where to deliver each item, when to submit it and how you will learn the decision. Keep academic clearance and care arrangements as separate items on your plan.

Your next-step checklist
- Record the confirmed process, term and deadline.
- Check that each attachment matches the explanation it supports.
- Keep a delivery and response log for the packet.
- Save the decision and resolve any account discrepancy.
- List outstanding return questions before setting enrollment plans.
Keep personal, insurance and medical information in the appropriate organization’s approved secure channel.
Common questions
What if I cannot get one of the requested documents?
Ask the receiving office to identify the missing item and explain whether it can consider another form of evidence. Keep its answer with your packet; do not label the request complete while a requirement remains unresolved.

How should I organize a return conversation with my clinician?
Bring the university’s current instructions and your questions about documentation. Ask what the treating office can provide and how it should be sent. Ask Wiley separately about academic review and any unfinished requirement.
