Psychiatry & therapy for Fort Cavazos families
Fort Cavazos is the largest active duty armored post in the country, and Killeen is the Texas city where our analysis of CDC data found the highest rate of frequent mental distress in the state, with more than one in five adults affected. Those two facts are related. Deployment cycles, reintegration, and the churn of PCS season put real pressure on soldiers and on the families who move with them. We treat that pressure every week, from Killeen and Harker Heights to Copperas Cove and Belton.
When the clinic on post is booked out
Darnall serves well over a hundred thousand beneficiaries, and its behavioral health clinics carry one of the heaviest loads in the Army. When care on post is booked out, or when a spouse would simply rather see someone unconnected to the installation, TRICARE lets you use a network provider off post. Whether a referral is needed first depends on your plan and on who the appointment is for, so send us your details and we will check before anything gets booked.
Installation resource: Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. If you are in crisis right now, call or text 988 and press 1 for the Veterans and Military Crisis Line, any time.
TRICARE, referrals, and what a visit costs
We are in network with TRICARE, and for family members the visit cost is often zero. Active duty service members need a referral for civilian care, and we can walk you through requesting one. We also take BlueCross, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Aetna for households carrying commercial coverage alongside military benefits.
Plan details live on our TRICARE page, and the official rules are at tricare.mil.
How visits work for Fort Cavazos families
Appointments run by secure video anywhere in Texas, which matters in a community where one car often serves a whole household. If a PCS moves your family to Bliss, to Sam Houston, or anywhere else in Texas or New Mexico, your provider does not change. And care for a spouse or child stays between them and their provider; it does not route through anyoneβs chain of command.
Not sure what you are dealing with yet? Take the free 2-minute PTSD screen, depression screen, or anxiety screen, the same instruments we score at every visit. You can also read about mental health care in Killeen or our broader veterans and military care.
Orders move fast. So do we.
Most new patients are seen within 1 to 2 business days. For family members the copay is often zero. Care follows every PCS across Texas.
