more than 80,000 personnel across Lackland, Randolph, and Fort Sam Houston · San Antonio, TX
Psychiatry & therapy for JBSA families
Joint Base San Antonio is the largest joint base in the Department of Defense, spread across Lackland, Randolph, and Fort Sam Houston. It trains every Air Force recruit, houses military medicine’s flagship hospital, and supports a beneficiary population in the hundreds of thousands. A system that large is impressive, and it is also easy to get lost in. We are the small, fast counterweight: one intake call, an appointment within a couple of business days, and the same provider at every visit.
When the clinic on post is booked out
Brooke Army Medical Center is the largest hospital in the DoD, and a system treating that many people means behavioral health appointments can book out well ahead. The TRICARE civilian network exists for that overflow. We see JBSA families from Universal City, Schertz, Converse, and across the metro by video, and because the referral question depends on your plan, we check it for you before you book.

TRICARE, referrals, and what a visit costs
We are in network with TRICARE. Families of trainees and students passing through Lackland or Fort Sam on temporary orders can often be seen within days, which matters when the family is only in San Antonio for a six month course. Commercial coverage through a civilian employer works as well.
Plan details live on our TRICARE page, and the official rules are at tricare.mil.
How visits work for JBSA families
Video appointments cover the whole metro, from Randolph out to Boerne and New Braunfels. If military medicine is your career and the next assignment moves you within Texas or to New Mexico, care continues without a new intake. A spouse’s or teen’s treatment stays their own; it is not visible to a command.
Not sure what you are dealing with yet? Take the free 2-minute PTSD screen, depression screen, or anxiety screen, the same instruments we score at every visit. You can also read about mental health care in San Antonio or our broader veterans and military care.
Orders move fast. So do we.
Most new patients are seen within 1 to 2 business days. For family members the copay is often zero. Care follows every PCS across Texas.
