Will anxiety medication show up on a work drug test?
Reviewed by Dr. Akinwande Akintola, MD - Sun Jul 19 2026
SSRIs like Lexapro and Zoloft don't show up on standard workplace panels. Benzodiazepines like Xanax do, but a valid prescription protects you. Disclose it to the lab's medical review officer and your result gets reported as negative; your employer sees pass/fail, never your diagnosis.
If your job tests often and that makes you nervous, say so at your evaluation. For most anxiety situations there are effective non-controlled options that never touch a drug panel at all.
